Forlì’s Vintage Fair: In Italy, fashion has two lives

Forlì’s Vintage Fair: In Italy, fashion has two lives

Milan is not only where it’s at. Forlì, in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, was just the setting for the 13th year in a row of the annual International Vintage Fair, aptly named, “La moda che vive due volte” (“Fashion lives twice“).
The event is entirely dedicated to vintage lovers with a showcase of clothes, accessories, and design. The fair, which took place from March 15th to 17th, was a success, with 13.000 visitors showing up for the special weekend. The main area was dedicated to the past century (yes, we mean the 1900s), especially designs from the ’50s and the ’60s, which collectors are especially fond of and that truly represent the essence of all that is Made-in-Italy. Other interesting areas of the fair are: the Design/Remake area showcasing the work of artisan businesses, the Collectionism area which offers vintage enthusiasts the chance to showcase and sell their collections, and the Publishing area with its magazines and books from the past.

Vintage fashion is a timeless creature, rich with details, uniqueness and priceless creative genius. Each piece can be put out of context and reinvented in a new shape and form, with surprising results. If you’re thinking “stuck in the past,” think again; vintage is versatile. You can find proof of that in the Modern Collectionism & Design area of the fair, which collected interior design pieces from the most sought-after Italian craftmanship, displaying objects and furniture whose quality is renowned worldwide.

The fair opened with two events that delighted all attending; the Sixties Pop Fashion exhibition, and the Andy Warhol Art Fashion exhibition. On the final day winners were announced of the fair contest, “Stile di un’epoca” (“Style from an era”), for the following categories: Authentic Vintage, Remake, and Modern Collectionism & Design. The winners are stylists and artisans who best interpreted the art from the 1900s in their clothes, accessories, and design pieces.

If you’re intrigued, you need not worry about having missed your chance; given this year’s big success, Forlì’s Vintage Fair will see a second edition in 2013, from September 20th to 22nd.
